Nearly 7.5 million plastic straws were found on U.S. shorelines during the 5-year cleanup research project. Extrapolated globally, that is 437 million to 8.3 billion plastic straws on the coastlines of the world.
Currently, plastic straws make up about 99% of the $3 billion global drinking straw market.

Possible Solutions to Plastic Straws
There have been several approaches to this problem. As of today, we have 4 different alternatives to plastic straws.
- Bioplastic straws
- Paper straws
- Steel straws
- Edible straws (Cookie straws)
Even though all of these help us reduce pollution and also reduces the excessive pressure we put on the environment due to the demand for plastic straws, they have their disadvantages. For instance, paper straws are often flimsy and often get soggy and disintegrate into the drink as they soak up moisture. Steel straws, on the other hand, are reusable but are often difficult to clean and are often a hassle to carry around. Cookie straws often go soggy very quickly as they too soak up the drink and some of them even release their flavors into the drink, detrimentally affecting the sensory experience of drinking the beverage.
Ooble could be the possible answer to all these problems.

The Process Involved
The process of designing this product was based on the “Human-centric design thinking” process. Based on the usability, convenience and sustainability.
Currently, the production is in Bangalore and are in talks with green cafes and other popular brands for running such a wonderful product.
