BioGreen- New Approach to Sustainable Packaging

Pollution exists today due to society’s lack of environmental awareness & the ease of simply littering plastics. Plastic bags, once ingested, cannot be digested by land and aquatic animals hence it causes death and decline in the population of these animals. Hence to save the environment and biodiversity, Biogreen has come up with the best solution to this problem satisfying the consumer and also the environment needs.

Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That’s over 1 million plastic bags used per minute. India is also projected to be the third-largest consumer market for plastic goods with a consumption of 15.5 million tonnes per annum, besides the US and China.

Currently, only 5% of the plastics are recovered from the total amount of plastics produced. Only 14% of plastic water bottles are recycled.

Why Not Use Paper Bags?

Paper bags use high energy for production, usage, and disposal. Expensive to produce and produces a considerable amount of solid waste. Harmful emissions too are released in water and atmosphere.

Paper uses 14 million trees annually. The paper if recycled is turned to a pulp and can be used for creating cardboard, but not paper bags.

Paper does not degrade completely in landfills without light and oxygen. Hence can be completely environment friendly in specific regions only.

Hence paper bags cannot be used.

What are Biopolymers?

Biopolymers are long-chain compounds made up of large molecular subunits. E.g.starch, cellulose, etc.

These are biodegradable, eco-friendly, and are obtained from natural sources. Hence, biodegradable products will be fully decomposed within 360 days compared to plastic, which would take 1000 years to break down. Biodegradable plastics are much better for the environment because there is no harm done to the earth when recovering fossil fuels.

Bioplastics are composed of many different sources and materials like plant oil, cellulose, corn starch,  potato starch, and sugarcane.

About BioGreen

Biogreen is a Bangalore based company with the mission to replace all the presently available disposable plastics and to make the world “plastic-free”. It was founded by a group of environmentally smart entrepreneurs and innovators who were searching for an innovative solution to the problem of non-biodegradable plastic wastes being strewn over cities and oceans, thus polluting them.

Biogreen’s bioplastic products are a perfect solution to all of these problems. Biogreen is the manufacturers and retailer of 100% biodegradable products which is the best substitute to carry bags, plastic grocery, and single-use products.

These bioplastics are made completely out of natural starch, vegetable oil derivatives, and vegetable waste. They are biodegradable, non-toxic, and also helps the consumers who use their products to reduce their dependence on oil and helps reduce their carbon footprint.

As of now, biogreen has introduced bioplastic carry bags, garbage bags, cutlery, food containers, and even cups. Biogreen even claims that a 20-micron bag of Biogreen is as strong as a 50-micron plastic bag and is also of more or less the same price. All of Biogreen’s products have also been approved and recommended by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) as the best alternative to conventional plastic.

Convenience & thriftiness is one of the major factors as to why people choose to use plastic. Well, with biogreen, you can enjoy the same functionality and convenience and that too at a cheap cost and most importantly guilt-free!
